A Gravesend landlord has been ordered to pay over £34,000 in fines and costs in relation to an unlicensed HMO they owned.
Lalli Sidhu, of Gravesham Let & Management Ltd, was issued these fines after an investigation began in August 2024.
Gravesham Council found the property in Parrock Street was not licensed as an HMO but housed a total of seven people. For this, Sidhu was issued with a £17,500 fine.
Sidhu had also failed to provide relevant information to these occupiers, had not made the required safety measures for the property or maintained it. For these offences, Sidhu was fined a total of £16,875.
After failing to make these payments, Gravesham Council successfully pursued the matter through the courts.
Orders issued by Dartford County Court now require Sidhu to pay a total of £34,375 including court costs.
“Protecting the interests, health, and safety of tenants in the private sector in the borough is one of our highest priorities,” said councillor Karina O’Malley, cabinet member for housing at Gravesham Borough Council.
“There are very clear regulations governing HMOs, and where we find landlords flouting those, we will take action against them.”
