A landlord is facing a £9,000 bill for ignoring repeated warnings from Harrow Council.
Landlord Kamil Trivedi was hit with the penalty after failing to cooperate with the council, which had found several failings at his property in Edgware.
Officers visited the property after repeated complaints of rubbish piling up outside.
Inside, they found dangerous living conditions which included no smoke alarms, a broken boiler and a strong smell of gas being detected.
An emergency engineer was called to deal with the latter and officers immediately issued an emergency prohibition order to stop anyone from living at the property until urgent repairs were made.
Trivedi failed to provide the required fire and electrical safety certificates, despite several formal requests from Harrow Council.
On 11th December he was found guilty of two offences at Willesden Magistrates: failing to provide a fire safety certificate and failing to provide an electrical safety certificate.
He was ordered to pay a fine of £5,000, a victim surcharge of £2,000 and cover costs of £2,000.
“Our officers acted swiftly to shut the property down and prosecute Mr Trivedi,” said councillor Pritesh Patel, cabinet member for cleaner streets and public safety at Harrow Council.
“No one is above the law.
“We will continue to put residents first and take tough action against anyone who puts them at risk.”
