The government has launched a consultation on a new ‘Decent Homes Standard’ for rented sectors.
Due to launch “as soon as possible”, this will focus on providing safe, secure housing for those in social housing and private rented properties.
The govt will also bring forward legislation for Awaab’s Law in the social rented sector this autumn. This will see hazards such as damp and mould identified as properties to be investigated and remedied within set timescales.
New access to information requirements will also be introduced for housing associations, enabling tenants in these properties to better hold their landlords to account.
A ‘Competence and Conduct’ standard will also be introduced for the social rented sector to ensure staff have the right skills and behaviour. Qualification requirements will be included within this.
