Housing secretary, Michael Gove, has pledged to ban no-fault evictions by the next general election.
The government had previously vowed to end no-fault evictions, however the conservatives went on to announce that the abolition of section 21 no-fault evictions would not commence until court reforms had been undertaken.
Speaking to the BBC on Sunday (11th February), Gove said : “It is the case that there are a small minority of unscrupulous landlords who use the threat of eviction either to jack up rents or to silence people who are complaining about the quality of their homes.
“It’s important that we deal with that abuse because the vast majority of landlords do a great job and you need a healthy private rented sector as part of a balanced housing economy.”
When asked whether the government will have ended no fault evictions by the next general election, Gove went on to say: “We will have outlawed it and we will have put the money into the courts in order to ensure that they can enforce that.”
