Government to consult on minimum EPC standards

Currently, private homes can be rented if they have an EPC rating of E while there is no minimum for social rented homes.

The government will shortly be consulting on proposals to raise the minimum standard, for both, to a C rating or equivalent by 2030.

In its announcement, the government states this will lift “one million households out of fuel poverty”.

It has reasoned that better rated properties will transform living standards, and deliver “safer, warmer homes”.

Elsewhere the government has also announced a new grant scheme for low-income homeowners and private tenants to get energy performance upgrades and cleaner heating.
