Paragon marks 30th anniversary of BTL lending

Paragon Bank has celebrated its 30th anniversary since launching its first mortgage product for landlords.

In the past three decades Paragon has supported over 300,000 landlords, writing over 240,000 mortgages with a value of approximately £33bn.

The bank’s first BTL mortgage, a £31,150 loan to help acquire a property valued at £45,000, was issued in 1995.

John Heron headed up this offering and led the mortgage division at Paragon until his retirement in 2019.

“BTL is in our DNA, launching our first landlord mortgage a year before the term was even invented,” said Louisa Sedgwick, managing director of mortgages at Paragon Bank (pictured above).

“As we all know, the market has changed significantly in the 30 years since we wrote our first landlord mortgage.

“We’ve changed with it, gaining in-depth knowledge, expertise and experience and building a reputation for one of the leading specialist lenders.”
