Cumberland CEO to exit in 2026

Cumberland Building Society CEO Des Moore (pictured above) has revealed plans to step down in 2026.

He will remain in this post until summer of that year to oversee transition to new leadership, which has yet to be identified.

When asked by BTL Insider, representatives for The Cumberland stated there was no further information to share about succession plans at this time.

Des has held the role since 2018, in that team simplifying the business’s structure and exiting non-core areas such as estate agency and financial advice.

In more recent times he has overseen the building society’s largest event investment as it undertakes digital transformation to modernise its services.

This has seen The Cumberland enter into a strategic partnership with Tata Consultancy Services to modernise its core technology platforms.

In his time as CEO, the building society’s balance sheet has grown by 32% and won awards as both an employer and provider of customer service.

“It has been a privilege to lead an organisation that does so much good for others, especially one that has been trusted by its members for 175 years,” said Des.

“Our people are “off-the-scale” passionate about what we do, and our success is down to them; I’ve been very lucky to lead an exceptional executive team during this time.

“We’ve built something deeply connected to the community, and I’m proud of the legacy we’ve created together.”
