More than half of private renters in favour of rent control policy

More than half of private renters (55%) believe rent control would be the most beneficial policy a new government could introduce, revealed latest research commissioned by Generation Rent.

According to a survey carried out by Opinium on behalf of Generation Rent, 55% have experienced rent increases over the past two years, while 34% have faced maintenance issues that have not been fixed.

In addition, 64% of private renters think the state of renting is going to get worse in the next few years.

Despite this, renters are optimistic about the potential for change, with many believing politicians would take action to solve issues that are raised by a high number of people.

Generation Rent is also claiming that private renters are at a disadvantage in the electoral system, as short tenancies and frequent moves may lead to private renters dropping off the electoral register between elections.

Generation Rent is currently running a campaign to increase voter registration among renters ahead of the 11:59pm deadline today.
