A little over a quarter of tenants (26%) are unsatisfied with the response and/or action their landlords took when addressing a problem in the rental properties, revealed a survey from home insurer Saga.
According to the research, the leading issue found in rental homes is mould and damp (with 64% of respondents affected), followed by maintenance and repairs (53%), and broken boilers (29%).
Other issues cited by participants include pests (28%), gas and fire safety (16%) and burglary (6%).
Anna Thunstrom, home insurance expert at Saga, said: “If you’re unsure of your rights as a tenant, your tenancy agreement will be your first port of call as it outlines the rights and responsibilities required from both the tenant and landlord; guidelines are also available on the GOV website.
“If you encounter difficulties with your landlord or they fail to respond to your requests, contact your nearest Citizens Advice or get in touch with your local council.”
